Iñigo Martinez Joins Al Nassr: A New Chapter in Saudi Pro League
Spanish defender Iñigo Martinez joins Al Nassr after terminating his contract with Barcelona, bringing experience and skill to the Saudi Pro League.

Iñigo Martinez has officially joined Al Nassr as a free agent following the mutual termination of his contract with Barcelona. The 34-year-old Spanish center-back has signed a one-year deal with the Saudi club, with an option to extend for another season. Martinez, who made 71 appearances for Barcelona since joining from Athletic Club in 2023, leaves the Catalan giants after a successful stint that saw him help the team secure a domestic treble last season.
Martinez's move to Al Nassr comes as the club looks to bolster its defensive line, especially with Aymeric Laporte potentially leaving. The former Spain international will now team up with Cristiano Ronaldo, who captains Al Nassr, aiming to improve upon their third-place finish in the Saudi Pro League last season.
This transfer not only marks a new chapter for Martinez but also provides Barcelona with financial flexibility. While the club won't receive a direct transfer fee, Martinez's departure frees up between €12 million to €16.2 million in salary, which could be used to register other players. Despite the ongoing challenges with LaLiga's financial regulations, Barcelona could utilize 60% of the freed-up salary to strengthen their squad.
Al Nassr has been active in the transfer market, also securing the services of Portuguese forward João Félix and appointing experienced coach Jorge Jesus. With Martinez's addition, the team aims to compete more fiercely in the upcoming season, leveraging his defensive prowess and experience at the highest levels of football.
