La'el Collins Returns to Dallas Cowboys: A Veteran's Journey Back to the Gridiron

La'el Collins discusses his return to the Dallas Cowboys, overcoming a severe knee injury, and his aspirations to protect quarterback Dak Prescott in the upcoming NFL season.

OXNARD, Calif. — La'el Collins, the seasoned offensive lineman, has made a triumphant return to the Dallas Cowboys, marking his third stint with the team. After a challenging period following a severe knee injury in 2022, Collins is now healthy and eager to contribute to the team's success in the 2025 NFL season.

Collins, who initially joined the Cowboys in 2015, became a cornerstone of the team's offensive line until his departure in 2021. His journey took a turn when he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022, only to suffer a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee. After a year of recovery and a brief period with the Buffalo Bills, Collins is back in Dallas, ready to prove his worth.

A Promise to Protect

During a recent workout session, Collins had a heartwarming interaction with Dak Prescott's daughter, MJ. "I'm going to protect your daddy," Collins assured her. "Nobody's going to get him." This statement underscores Collins' commitment to his role and his readiness to shield Prescott from opposing defenses.

Overcoming Adversity

Collins admitted that there were moments when he doubted his future in the NFL. "Anytime you're fighting to get healthy, especially with the injury I had late in 2022, a lot of people don't even get a chance to even think about coming back," he shared. However, his faith and dedication to recovery paid off, leading him back to the Cowboys.

Versatility and Experience

At 32 years old, Collins brings a wealth of experience and versatility to the Cowboys' offensive line. Weighing in at 300 pounds for the first time since high school, Collins is in peak physical condition. He is set to play right tackle but is also capable of moving inside if needed. His adaptability will be crucial for the team's offensive strategies.

A New Chapter

Collins' return to Dallas is more than just a professional move; it's a homecoming. "This is where my heart is," he expressed. "So I want to continue to finish off strong here." His enthusiasm and determination are palpable as he aims to secure a spot on the final roster and contribute to the Cowboys' pursuit of a championship.

Mentorship and Legacy

Collins also reflected on attending the retirement ceremonies of his former teammates, Zack Martin and Tyron Smith. "I told them coming into it, like, 'Hey, I'm coming to you guys' retirement, but don't let none of that stuff rub off on me because I'm not done yet,'" he said. This mindset highlights Collins' drive to continue his legacy in the NFL.

As the Cowboys prepare for the upcoming season, Collins' return adds depth and experience to the team. His journey of resilience and commitment serves as an inspiration to both his teammates and fans alike.
