John Daly Sets Unwanted Record with a 19 on Par-5 at Sanford International
John Daly made history at the Sanford International with a record-high 19 on a par-5 hole, marking a significant moment in PGA Tour Champions.

John Daly has etched his name into the PGA Tour Champions record books, but not for a reason any golfer would desire. During the first round of the Sanford International, Daly scored a staggering 19 on the par-5 12th hole at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux City, South Dakota.
This score not only set a new record for the highest score on a single hole in the PGA Tour Champions but also surpassed Daly's personal worst by one stroke. His previous high was an 18 on the par-5 sixth hole during the 1998 Bay Hill Invitational, where he famously hit his 3-wood into the water six consecutive times.
The details from the course were somewhat unclear, as the PGA Tour Champions does not employ a laser system to track shots. However, the shot-by-shot account reveals that Daly's tee shot landed in the rough, followed by seven consecutive shots into the hazard. His 17th shot finally cleared the water, landing in more rough, and he managed to get up-and-down for his 19.
This score broke the previous record of 16, held by three players, most recently Bruce Crampton in 1996 at the Greater Grand Rapids Open. Unlike his previous high score at Bay Hill, where Daly made a birdie on the next hole, he could only manage a par on the 13th hole at Minnehaha.
Daly finished the round with an 88, a stark contrast to his playing partner, Ángel Cabrera, who was leading the tournament with a 64, celebrating his 56th birthday. Daly's high score on the PGA Tour was a 90 in the second round of the 2014 Valspar Championship, where he struggled with the yips and took a 12 on the 16th hole after hitting three balls into the water.
This event marks a significant moment in Daly's career, highlighting the challenges even the most seasoned golfers can face on the course.
