Mia Venner's Remarkable Journey to Red Roses Squad: A Tale of Resilience and Redemption

Mia Venner’s inspiring return to the England squad showcases her resilience and growth as a key player for Gloucester-Hartpury.

Mia Venner's journey back to the England Rugby squad is nothing short of extraordinary. At just 17, Venner made her debut in the Women's Six Nations, showcasing her raw talent. However, her path to success was far from smooth.

After a promising start, Venner faced a significant setback with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in December 2020. This injury not only tested her physical strength but also her mental resilience.

I was at such a young age and had one of the biggest injuries you can do in rugby, Venner recalled. Physically I came back stronger, but mentally I had to regain the love for rugby again.

Despite the challenges, Venner returned to the pitch with renewed vigor. Her performance in Gloucester-Hartpury's third consecutive Premiership Women's Rugby title win caught the attention of England coach John Mitchell, earning her a spot in the Red Roses squad.

Venner's speed and footwork have always been her standout attributes. Combined with her improved defensive skills, she has become a more complete player. Her crucial try in the Premiership final against Saracens was a testament to her growth and determination.

Venner is now preparing for the upcoming Women's Six Nations match against Italy, hoping to secure her second cap. With the Rugby World Cup on the horizon, Venner is focused on maintaining her form and continuing to improve.

It is just about being able to maintain form at the minute, she said. A World Cup squad is where everyone wants to be, it is what we work hard for every day.

Venner's story is one of resilience, hard work, and an unwavering love for the game. As she continues to shine on the field, she remains an inspiration to aspiring rugby players everywhere.
