Criticism on ICC and World Test Championship Format in Cricket

Wisden editor criticises ICC and World Test Championship format. Suggests improvements.

The World Test Championship (WTC) has come under severe criticism from Wisden editor Lawrence Booth. He opines that the current format is a mess and suggests changes like extending the tournament to four years and ensuring more balanced fixtures. The ICC's governance and the promotion of Jay Shah have also raised concerns. The third edition of the WTC is set to conclude in June.

The current WTC cycle lasts for two years, with teams playing six series and points awarded based on match results. However, the varying number of Tests played by teams and opponents makes ranking complicated, requiring a calculator and violating the basic rule of simplicity in sports.

Booth insists that the ICC must take steps to rectify the situation and improve the championship's format for better administration and fan engagement.
