Ryan Fox's Stunning 50-Foot Chip Secures Victory and PGA Championship Berth

Ryan Fox clinched a dramatic victory at the Myrtle Beach Classic with a 50-foot chip, securing his spot in the PGA Championship.

New Zealander Ryan Fox achieved a remarkable victory at the Myrtle Beach Classic, securing his place in the upcoming PGA Championship. Fox's win came in dramatic fashion as he sank a 50-foot chip from the fringe of the green during a three-way play-off. This victory marks his first US PGA Tour title in 68 starts.

Fox finished the tournament at 15 under par, alongside Canada's Mackenzie Hughes and American Harry Higgs. The play-off was initiated when Hughes bogeyed the 18th hole, and Higgs could only manage a par. The tournament coincided with the Truist Championship in Philadelphia, which was won by Austrian Sepp Straka.

Fox, whose father Grant is a former All Blacks rugby player, has previously won three times on the DP World Tour, including the 2023 BMW PGA Championship. His recent success in the United States has been a significant milestone in his career.

Celebrating his victory on Mother's Day, Fox shared the moment with his wife Anneke Ryff and their two young daughters. He humorously recalled his wife's request for a trophy as a Mother's Day gift, which he fulfilled with his win.

Fox's victory also earned him a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour, providing him with much-needed job security. Reflecting on his journey, Fox acknowledged the challenges he faced in transitioning to the PGA Tour but expressed relief and optimism for the future.

With this win, Fox is set to compete in the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, North Carolina, starting this Thursday. His recent performance has certainly positioned him as a contender to watch in the upcoming major.
