Aston Martin's Road to Redemption: Newey Highlights Critical Weaknesses in Monaco
Adrian Newey reveals Aston Martin's key weaknesses, including simulator issues, as they aim to climb the F1 ranks in Monaco.

Adrian Newey's Insight on Aston Martin's Challenges
Adrian Newey, the legendary designer who joined Aston Martin in March 2025, has pointed out significant weaknesses in the team's infrastructure that could hinder their progress in Formula 1. Speaking at the Monaco Grand Prix, Newey emphasized the need for improvement, particularly in the team's driver-in-the-loop simulator.
The Simulator Problem
Newey described the simulator as a 'weak tool' that is currently not correlating with real-world performance. 'It's fair to say that some of our tools are weak. Particularly the driver-in-the-loop simulator needs a lot of work because it's not correlating at all at the moment, which is a fundamental research tool,' he said. He estimated that resolving these issues could take up to two years.
Team Dynamics and Future Plans
Newey also addressed the team's dynamics, noting that while there are many talented individuals, better organization is needed. 'There's a lot of individually very, very good people. We just need to try to get them working together, perhaps in a slightly better organized way,' he explained.
Working with Fernando Alonso
One of the highlights for Newey this season is working with two-time world champion Fernando Alonso. 'Fernando, he's such a cool character,' Newey remarked. 'I'm looking forward to developing that relationship a little bit this season, but particularly next season.'
Looking Ahead to 2026
Newey is already deeply involved in designing Aston Martin's 2026 car, which will comply with new chassis and engine regulations. He described his intense focus on the project, saying, 'When I get into a period of intense concentration I tend to not see left and right. All my processing power is going into the one area, which is trying to work with everybody to design a fast racing car.'
Conclusion
Aston Martin's journey to becoming a competitive force in Formula 1 is fraught with challenges, but with Adrian Newey's expertise and a clear plan for improvement, the team is hopeful for a brighter future.
