Fallon Sherrock, a trailblazer in the world of professional darts, has announced her plans to take a significant break from the sport in 2026. This decision comes as part of her long-term strategy to address ongoing health issues and return to her peak performance levels.
Sherrock, who made history as the first woman to win a match at the PDC World Championship in 2019, has been battling health challenges since the birth of her son Rory in 2014. These challenges have impacted her stamina and ability to maintain her rigorous training and competition schedule.
In a recent interview with Online Darts, Sherrock shared her current state of play and future plans:
"I feel like it will be my B-game [at the moment] and I don't know if I am able to get my A-game out," Sherrock said. "If I'm going to have a year out next year I want to make a bang this year. I want to try to get to everything even if I'm not playing 100%."
Sherrock, affectionately known as the 'Queen of the Palace', emphasized her determination to continue fighting and playing at her best, despite the setbacks:
"All I want to do is practise at home for a couple of hours a day and I can't do that at the moment, so it is difficult," she added. "I've had to pull out of some exhibitions recently because I haven't had the stamina. I have had to narrow down what I am playing in at the moment, and that hurts because I love darts."
Looking ahead, Sherrock remains optimistic about her recovery and future in the sport:
"Fingers crossed that in a couple of years' time I'll be alright and back to winning well."
Sherrock's career has been marked by groundbreaking achievements and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Her decision to take a break is a testament to her commitment to long-term success and well-being.
