Tomos Williams and Jac Morgan Aim to Shine for Wales in British & Irish Lions Tour

Tomos Williams and Jac Morgan, the sole Welsh representatives in the British & Irish Lions squad, aim to make Wales proud in their upcoming tour of Australia.

Scrum-half Tomos Williams and flanker Jac Morgan are set to represent Wales in the British & Irish Lions squad, a significant honor amidst a challenging period for Welsh rugby. The duo are the only Welsh players selected in Andy Farrell's 38-man squad, which will face Argentina in Dublin before embarking on a nine-match tour of Australia.

A Proud Moment for Wales

Williams, who has earned 65 caps for Wales, expressed his pride in being selected alongside Morgan. "I try not to put too much pressure on myself, but it is just me and Jac [from Wales]," said Williams. "It is such an honor to represent your country and the Lions, and hopefully, we can do them proud."

This selection marks Wales' lowest contingent in the Lions squad in nearly a century, following a record run of 17 international defeats and consecutive Six Nations wooden spoons.

Williams' Journey with Gloucester

Williams, who joined Gloucester from Cardiff in 2024, has had a standout debut season with the club. Named the Gallagher Premiership Player of the Season, he helped Gloucester secure a fifth-place finish in the Premiership, narrowly missing the playoffs by two points.

"Being in Wales was pretty tough, especially over the last couple of years playing internationally," Williams admitted. "The move to Gloucester helped me a lot and gave me a break from international rugby. The way we played suited me, and I have a lot to thank Gloucester for."

The Farrell Effect

Lions head coach Andy Farrell has made a strong impression on Williams. "I think he has such an aura around the place," Williams said. "Everybody turns their heads when he speaks. The level of detail and clarity he gives you is class."

Following a warm weather training week in Portugal, Williams is set to feature in the warm-up fixture against Argentina at the Aviva Stadium on June 20. "It is about trying to put what we worked on in the week into practice," Williams explained. "It has been a pretty short period to get things going, but hopefully, we can see how we have trained and put it into practice on the pitch."

Looking Ahead

Williams hopes to follow in the footsteps of legendary Welsh scrum-halves like Sir Gareth Edwards, Terry Holmes, and Mike Phillips. With the Lions set to play three Tests against Australia in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, Williams and Morgan are determined to make their mark and bring pride to Welsh rugby.
