Thrilling Last-Ball Drama: Washington Secures Victory in Major League Cricket
In a nail-biting finish, Washington Freedom clinched a last-ball win against Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket, thanks to a dropped catch by Jason Holder.

In a heart-stopping finale, Washington Freedom edged out Los Angeles Knight Riders by five wickets in the Major League Cricket (MLC) showdown. The match, held on 27 June 2025, saw the defending champions needing two runs off the final three balls. They managed a single off the penultimate ball, setting the stage for a dramatic last delivery.
New Zealand's Glenn Phillips faced West Indies' Andre Russell for the final ball. Phillips hit the ball towards Jason Holder at mid-on, but Holder fumbled the catch, allowing the ball to ricochet away. This crucial error enabled Phillips and Obus Pienaar to scramble through for the match-winning single.
Phillips remained unbeaten with a swift 33 off 23 balls, while Pienaar contributed 23 off 16 as Freedom successfully chased down a target of 214. Earlier in the innings, Australia's Mitchell Owen top-scored with 43, and captain Glenn Maxwell added 42 to the total.
On the other side, Los Angeles Knight Riders posted a formidable 213-4, largely thanks to West Indies' Andre Fletcher, who smashed an impressive 104 off 60 balls. Fletcher retired out due to fatigue at the end of the 18th over, and compatriot Rovman Powell was dismissed first ball. However, Russell (30 off 13) and Holder (11 off 6) added 23 off the final 11 balls, setting up a competitive total.
With this victory, Washington Freedom moved to second place in the standings with five wins from six matches, while Los Angeles Knight Riders languish in fifth place with just one win from six games.
