West Ham United Secures Rising Star El Hadji Malick Diouf in a £19m Deal
West Ham United has signed young Senegalese defender El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague for £19m, aiming to strengthen their squad for the upcoming Premier League season.

West Ham United has made a significant addition to their defensive lineup by acquiring El Hadji Malick Diouf, a promising young talent from Senegal, in a deal worth £19 million. The 20-year-old defender, who has previously played for Slavia Prague, joins the Hammers on a long-term contract and is set to integrate into the team during their pre-season training camp in Germany.
Diouf, who can play both as a left-back and left wing-back, has already made a name for himself in European football. Last season, he was instrumental in Slavia Prague's Czech top-flight title victory, contributing seven goals and helping the team concede only 18 goals in 35 matches. His performances have not gone unnoticed, as he earned his first cap for the Senegal national team in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi in September 2024, and later featured in Senegal's 3-1 friendly win against England in June.
Speaking about his move, Diouf expressed his excitement and ambition:
"A lot of clubs were interested in signing me, but I chose West Ham because it was a good plan for me. I want to say to the West Ham supporters I'm very happy to be here with them. I think we'll make a very good season this year. Everyone wants to come here to play in the Premier League. I think it is a dream for everyone."
West Ham manager Graham Potter also shared his thoughts on the new signing:
"He is young, hungry, and ambitious, and I think he will be a very positive addition to the group. We’ve been watching him for some time, and his versatility and defensive prowess make him an excellent fit for our squad."
Diouf's journey to the Premier League began when he left Senegal at the age of 18 to join Norwegian side Tromso in February 2023, where he made 21 appearances and scored three goals. A year later, he moved to Slavia Prague, where he quickly established himself as a key player.
This acquisition is part of West Ham's broader strategy to bolster their squad ahead of the new Premier League season, with Diouf expected to play a crucial role in their defensive setup. Fans are eagerly anticipating his debut and the impact he will have on the team's performance.
