Pogacar Dominates Mountain Time Trial to Extend Tour de France Lead
Tadej Pogacar extends his lead in the Tour de France with a commanding win in the mountain time trial, leaving rivals Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel trailing.

Tadej Pogacar once again demonstrated his supremacy in the Tour de France by securing his fourth stage win of the 2025 edition. The reigning champion, who had already reclaimed the overall lead in stage 12, delivered a masterful performance in the mountain time trial on stage 13. Pogacar completed the challenging 10.9km route from Loudenvielle to the Peyragudes airfield in the Pyrenees in 23 minutes, outpacing his main rival Jonas Vingegaard by 36 seconds. This victory extended his overall lead to 4 minutes and 7 seconds.
Remco Evenepoel, the world and Olympic time-trial champion, started the day third in the general classification but faced difficulties due to a minor mechanical issue. Despite these challenges, Evenepoel managed to hold onto third place, although he now trails Pogacar by over 7 minutes.
Primoz Roglic finished third in the stage, while Oscar Onley, a British rising star, gained 29 seconds on Kevin Vauquelin to move into fifth place overall. Pogacar, who reclaimed the Tour title from Vingegaard last year, now boasts 21 stage wins in his career, placing him sixth on the all-time list. With eight stages remaining, Pogacar remains a strong contender for the overall victory.
Pogacar expressed his satisfaction after the race, stating, "I'm super happy. This time trial was quite a big question mark already in December for me. I wanted everything to be perfect. I was really targeting to go from start to finish all out and tried to smash it as much as possible on the pedals. I almost blew up in the end but I saw the timer at the top and it gave me an extra push because I saw that I was going to win."
The stage was marked by its punishing finish, with an 8km climb averaging a 7.8% gradient and a final 300m at 16%. Luke Plapp, the Australian time-trial champion, set an early benchmark, but his time was eventually surpassed by Pogacar and others.
Looking ahead, the peloton faces another grueling mountain stage on Saturday, covering 182.6km from Pau to a summit finish at Luchon-Superbagneres. As the 2025 Tour de France progresses, all eyes will be on Pogacar as he aims to solidify his lead and potentially secure another title in Paris on 27 July.
