Bob MacIntyre's Strong Performance Boosts Ryder Cup Hopes
Bob MacIntyre's impressive performance at the Open Championship strengthens his bid for an automatic spot on the European Ryder Cup team.

Bob MacIntyre is riding high on confidence following his stellar performance at the Open Championship, which has significantly bolstered his chances of securing an automatic spot on the European Ryder Cup team this September. The 28-year-old Scottish golfer finished tied for seventh at Royal Portrush, carding rounds of 71, 66, 70, and 67 to finish 10-under par. This strong showing propelled him up one place to second in the Ryder Cup standings.
MacIntyre's recent form has been nothing short of impressive. After securing a second-place finish at last month's US Open, he believes he has made significant strides towards earning his place on Luke Donald's team. "My job is to qualify automatically so that Luke Donald can do what he wants with the picks," MacIntyre stated. "I feel like the last two majors I've put a massive dent in that."
The top six ranked players following the British Masters on 24 August will automatically qualify for Team Europe. MacIntyre remains focused on the task ahead, with several tournaments left to play. "For me, there's going to be another three or four tournaments I'm going to play from now until the finish," he said. "If I do my job well, I should be in that team."
MacIntyre's final round at the Open Championship was a testament to his resilience. Despite a challenging start, he finished strong with four birdies in his last seven holes. However, he was still seven shots behind the dominant Scottie Scheffler, who claimed his fourth major title by four shots over fellow American Harris English.
Reflecting on his performance, MacIntyre said, "It was difficult, it was like yesterday. Playing well, making a rash mistake, not holing any putts, feeling as though I'm hitting lots of lovely putts and nothing's going in. And then getting angry on myself, but I just had to wait my turn, wait my run." He added, "It's always good to finish strongly, especially with the par on 18, such a strong finishing hole."
With the Ryder Cup on the horizon, MacIntyre's recent performances have certainly put him in a strong position. As he continues to compete in upcoming tournaments, his focus remains unwavering: to secure his spot on the European team and contribute to their success in one of golf's most prestigious events.
