Remembering John Fallon: Celtic's Legendary Goalkeeper and Lisbon Lion

Celtic's legendary goalkeeper John Fallon, a key figure in the 1967 European Cup victory, passes away at 84. Explore his remarkable career and legacy.

John Fallon: A Celtic Legend

John Fallon, the celebrated goalkeeper and the 12th Lisbon Lion, has passed away at the age of 84. His death marks the end of an era for Celtic Football Club and the broader Scottish football community.

The Historic Night in Lisbon

Fallon was the sole substitute on that iconic night in 1967 when Celtic defeated Inter Milan in Lisbon to become the first British club to win the European Cup. This victory remains one of the most significant achievements in the club's history.

A Stellar Career

During his 14-year tenure with Celtic, Fallon won six league titles, five League Cups, and two Scottish Cups. He joined the Parkhead club in 1958 and made nearly 200 appearances, solidifying his place as a key player in the team.

Life After Celtic

After leaving Celtic, Fallon played for Motherwell and Greenock Morton before retiring. Despite his moves, his love for Celtic remained unwavering. He continued to support the club passionately throughout his life.

A Legacy Remembered

In a heartfelt statement, Celtic expressed their deep sorrow: "His love for Celtic was a constant throughout the years, and he followed the club at home and away for the rest of his life. His passing comes as a great sadness to us all, and the thoughts and prayers of everyone connected with Celtic Football Club are with his family and friends at this sad time."

A Month of Loss

Fallon's death follows the recent passing of fellow Lisbon Lion John Clark, also at the age of 84. The football community mourns the loss of these two legends who played pivotal roles in Celtic's golden era.
