Glenn Irwin Shifts to Yamaha Post-Ducati Disagreement: A New Chapter in British Superbikes
Glenn Irwin transitions to Yamaha after a mutual split with Ducati, ready to race in the British Superbikes following a swift recovery from injury.

Northern Irish rider Glenn Irwin has officially joined OMG Racing Yamaha after ending his tenure with PBM Ducati due to a disagreement over his return to racing. The 35-year-old sustained severe injuries during a practice crash at Snetterton in June, leading to fractures in his hip socket and pelvis. Despite undergoing surgery and a rigorous recovery process, Irwin was eager to return to the track sooner than anticipated.
Initially aiming for a comeback at Caldwell Park by late August, Irwin felt ready to race at Thruxton from 8-10 August, citing a faster-than-expected recovery. However, PBM Ducati expressed concerns, stating that his return should be postponed until after round seven at Cadwell Park to ensure his full recovery and to manage competition risks.
This disagreement led to a mutual decision to part ways, allowing Irwin to pursue his racing ambitions with Yamaha. David Williams, Yamaha team owner, expressed enthusiasm about Irwin joining the team, highlighting the strong pairing with defending champion Kyle Ryde.
Irwin, who debuted in British Superbikes in 2016 with Ducati, has an impressive record of 19 wins and 23 podiums over six seasons. Despite narrowly missing the 2023 Championship by half a point, his move to Yamaha marks a significant shift in his career. Irwin has been declared orthopedically fit and is set to make his Yamaha debut this weekend, bringing a fresh dynamic to the British Superbikes season.
