Barcelona's Registration Woes: Rashford's Future in Limbo
Barcelona faces challenges in registering Marcus Rashford due to La Liga's financial rules, with manager Hansi Flick expressing his concerns.

Barcelona's Struggle with Player Registration
Marcus Rashford, the talented forward, has yet to be registered by his new club Barcelona. Manager Hansi Flick has openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the current situation. The Spanish champions are set to kick off their season this Saturday, but they are grappling with La Liga's stringent financial regulations.
Financial Constraints Impacting Transfers
In the 2024-25 season, Barcelona's expenditures on player acquisitions and wages surpassed their revenue, leading to complications in registering new players. Flick stated, "For me, the situation, you can imagine I'm not happy about that. But I know the situation and I believe in the club."
Recent Registration Challenges
Barcelona's financial woes have been a recurring issue. Last season, they managed to register Dani Olmo only as a special exception for the first half of the season. Subsequent appeals to register him for the remainder of the season were denied. The club temporarily re-registered him in January 2025, with the extension lasting until the season's end in April.
Efforts to Alleviate Registration Issues
To mitigate their registration difficulties, Barcelona has taken several measures. German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen agreed to a long-term medical leave, freeing up 80% of his wage value to register a replacement. Additionally, the departure of 34-year-old defender Inigo Martinez to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr has created more salary space.
Upcoming Season Opener
Barcelona's first game of the season is scheduled against Mallorca on Saturday at 18:30 BST. Despite the ongoing registration issues, the club remains hopeful of resolving these challenges and making a strong start to their campaign.
