British wheelchair tennis players Alfie Hewett, Gordon Reid, Greg Slade, and Andy Lapthorne advance to the second round at the US Open 2025.

Alfie Hewett Dominates in Opening Match
Britain's Alfie Hewett started his quest for a third consecutive US Open wheelchair singles title with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 victory over American Charlie Cooper. The second seed needed just 61 minutes to secure the win against the 17-year-old.
Gordon Reid's Hard-Fought Victory
Hewett's long-term doubles partner, Gordon Reid, also advanced to the second round after a grueling 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-1 win over Spain's Daniel Caverzaschi. The match lasted two hours and 33 minutes, showcasing Reid's resilience.
Greg Slade and Andy Lapthorne Progress
Fellow Britons Greg Slade and Andy Lapthorne made their mark in the quad singles. Slade saved three match points to defeat Brazil's Leandro Pena 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (11-9). Lapthorne, a two-time US Open champion, cruised past South African Donald Ramphadi with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Women's Wheelchair Singles
In the women's wheelchair singles, Lucy Shuker faced a tough challenge against Dutch 23-time Grand Slam champion Diede de Groot, falling 6-3, 6-0. De Groot is still seeking her first major title this season after returning from hip and shoulder surgery.
