Matthew Brennan Claims Historic Stage Three Victory at Tour of Britain 2025
Matthew Brennan secures a thrilling sprint finish victory in stage three of the Tour of Britain, becoming the youngest stage winner in the event's history.

Matthew Brennan made history on September 4, 2025, by winning stage three of the Tour of Britain in a dramatic sprint finish. The 20-year-old British cyclist, riding for Visma-Lease a Bike, became the youngest stage winner in the race's storied history. Brennan's victory came on the 122.8km route from Milton Keynes to Ampthill, where he edged out Italy's Alberto Dainese and Portugal's Rui Oliveira in a frantic finale.
Brennan's triumph was aided by a perfect leadout from his teammate and race leader Olav Kooij, who finished ninth. This win marks Brennan's 12th victory of the season and his first as a professional rider. "This season has been pretty incredible so far," Brennan told ITV4. "It was really chaotic into the last few kilometres. We bided our time a little bit, and in the end, we moved up in the last two kilometres."
With this victory, Brennan moves up to second in the general classification, just 10 seconds behind Kooij. The young rider is optimistic about the upcoming stages, particularly the hilltop finish at Burton Dassett Country Park. "I think there are going to be fireworks tomorrow," Brennan said. "Potentially, the GC is going to have a little bit of a shake-up."
Meanwhile, Belgian star Remco Evenepoel finished safely in the peloton, while Britain's Geraint Thomas ended his illustrious career with a final professional road race, coming home one minute and 29 seconds behind the leaders.
