With only one notable signing, defender Woyo Coulibaly from Parma for £3 million, the Foxes faced challenges in bolstering their squad. Despite attempts, the club rejected Sunderland's bid for promising midfielder Kasey McAteer on transfer deadline day.

Due to existing loan agreements with Brighton and Crystal Palace for Facundo Buonanotte and Odsonne Edouard, Leicester is unable to make additional domestic loan signings without letting current players go back to their parent clubs. This scenario underlines the club's precarious position concerning the Profit and Sustainability Rules, which further restrict their ability to spend. Van Nistelrooy noted, "The reality is not always as you wish. Communication has kept me informed; therefore, it didn't come as a surprise."

He’s taking the opportunity to embrace youth, mentioning that 15-year-old Jeremy Monga and 16-year-old Jake Evans will be on the bench for the match.
