"That's the beauty of the game of baseball, and the beauty of my career," Skubal reflects. "I think my career is pretty relatable to a lot of kids."

Breaking into the Majors

Skubal was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the ninth round, and his ascent through the minor leagues was anything but smooth. However, his determination and work ethic paid off. By the time he reached the majors, Skubal had developed into a formidable pitcher, known for his aggressive style and dominant performances.

Cy Young and Beyond

In 2024, Skubal's hard work culminated in a Cy Young Award, recognizing him as the best pitcher in the American League. His performance that season was historic, leading the league in ERA, strikeouts, and wins. But Skubal isn't resting on his laurels. "In my eyes, I haven't accomplished anything in this game," he says. "That's what keeps me hungry. I haven't won a World Series, and that's all that matters."

"But it's hard when 12-year-olds are getting recruited. Now you think you have to be good at 10. I wasn't good until I was 26."
