Sir Mark Cavendish and Yasmin Ingham Shine at Isle of Man Sports Awards 2024

Sir Mark Cavendish and Yasmin Ingham were honored at the Isle of Man Sports Awards 2024, celebrating their remarkable achievements in cycling and equestrian sports.

Cycling legend Sir Mark Cavendish and equestrian star Yasmin Ingham were the standout winners at the Isle of Man Sports Awards 2024. The prestigious event, held at the Villa Marina in Douglas, recognized their exceptional contributions to their respective sports.

Cavendish, known as the 'Manx Missile,' was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award following his retirement from professional cycling in November 2023. His illustrious career includes a record-breaking 35 stage victories in the Tour de France, surpassing the previous record set by Eddy Merckx. Reflecting on his achievement, Cavendish expressed his pride in the Isle of Man's sporting culture, stating, "When you see the achievements that every athlete here has, it makes you proud – across motorsports, across cycling, across ball sports, we're a little island that loves sports and a little island that punches well above its weight."

Yasmin Ingham, a rising star in equestrian sports, took home the Sportswoman of the Year Award for the fifth time. She was the alternate for the Great British eventing team at the Paris Olympics, further cementing her status as one of the sport's brightest talents.

Other notable winners included Billy Harris, who received the Ambassador of the Year Award for his achievements in tennis, and the Crowe brothers, Ryan and Callum, who were named Team of the Year for their success in motorsport sidecar racing.
