Benjamin Pritchard Clinches European Gold with Record-Breaking Performance
Benjamin Pritchard sets a new world record and wins gold at the European Rowing Championships, marking a historic achievement in his career.



Great Britain's Benjamin Pritchard has once again made headlines by setting a world record and securing the gold medal at the European Rowing Championships. This remarkable achievement came just three days after he first broke the world record in the PR1 men's single sculls.
Record-Breaking Performance On the first day of the championships held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Pritchard posted an impressive time of eight minutes 47.88 seconds, securing his spot in the finals. Two days later, he surpassed his own record with a time of 8:40.38, clinching his first European title. This performance was enough to outshine the previous world-record holder, Ukraine's Roman Polianskyi, who finished second with a time of 8:51.93. Italy's Giacomo Perini took the third spot with a time of 8:55.96.
Team GB's Success The British team showcased their strength across various categories. Samuel Murray and Annabel Caddick secured a silver medal in the PR3 mixed double sculls final with a time of 7:03.54, closely following Germany's Valentin Luz and Kathrin Marchand, who won with a time of 6:57.41.
In the women's pair final, Eleanor Brinkhoff and Megan Slabbert claimed a bronze medal with a time of 6:55.47. The Romanian pair of Maria Magdalena Rusu and Simona Radis took the gold with a time of 6:49.18, while Italy's Laura Meriano and Alice Codato secured the silver with a time of 6:52.64.
The British women's four team, comprising Daisy Bellamy, Lauren Irwin, Martha Birtles, and Heidi Long, also finished third in their final, behind the Netherlands and Romania.
Historic Achievement This victory marks a significant milestone in Pritchard's career, adding to his accolades as a Paralympic champion. His consistent performance and dedication have solidified his position as one of the top athletes in the world of rowing.
