Lake Victoria Triumphs in the Irish 1,000 Guineas: A Stunning Comeback
Lake Victoria makes a remarkable comeback to win the Irish 1,000 Guineas, showcasing her class and resilience under jockey Ryan Moore.

Lake Victoria demonstrated her exceptional talent and resilience by winning the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh on May 25, 2025. Facing a strong challenge from the 50-1 outsider California Dreamer, Lake Victoria, trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, secured a decisive victory by two-and-a-quarter lengths.
The Race
Lake Victoria, a 10-11 shot, was looking to rebound from a disappointing performance at Newmarket. Despite her previous unbeaten record, including a win at the Breeders' Cup, she had finished sixth out of ten runners in the 1,000 Guineas earlier this month.
The Comeback
Under the expert guidance of Ryan Moore, Lake Victoria displayed patience and class. She rode along the rail before gliding ahead of California Dreamer to claim the win. Cercene, a 20-1 shot, finished in third place.
Post-Race Reactions
"She ran beautifully today," Moore told RTE Sport after winning this race for the fourth time. "She's come on massively from Newmarket. It's really exciting."
Trainer's Milestone
This victory marked the 11th win in the Irish 1,000 Guineas for Aidan O'Brien, but his first since 2021. O'Brien's expertise and Lake Victoria's determination combined to create a memorable moment in horse racing history.
