Dan Evans Revives Career with Strong Eastbourne Performance Despite Quarter-Final Exit

Dan Evans reflects on his Eastbourne run and looks ahead to Wimbledon after a series of impressive victories.

British number five Dan Evans has expressed confidence in reviving his career after a strong performance at the Eastbourne International, despite being defeated in the quarter-finals. Evans, who recently upset world number 13 Tommy Paul, fell to American Jenson Brooksby with a score of 6-2, 6-3.

Evans has been in fine form, securing two top-20 wins in consecutive weeks. He defeated world number 14 Frances Tiafoe at Queen's Club, marking a strong start to the grass-court season, and followed up with a victory over Paul in Eastbourne. Additionally, he overcame world number 49 Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia in the first round at Eastbourne.

"In an hour or so I'll reflect on this week, it's been great," Evans shared with BBC Sport. "I've put my name back out there a bit. I've got a great event coming up. It is just positives leaving Eastbourne."

Currently ranked within the top 200, Evans has been granted a main-draw wildcard for the upcoming Wimbledon Championship, which commences on Monday. This opportunity comes as a significant boost for the 35-year-old, who was once ranked inside the top 30.

Despite the loss to Brooksby in challenging windy conditions, where Evans lost serve four times and failed to set up a break point, he remains optimistic. "It was really difficult conditions," Evans admitted. "It's not easy but that's tennis, you have to recover and get back out there. It all felt very quick today."

Brooksby is set to face Ugo Humbert in the semi-finals after Humbert defeated British number four Billy Harris. Harris, who will also compete in Wimbledon's main draw, was eliminated in the quarter-finals at Eastbourne for the second consecutive year.

Evans also expressed disappointment over the scheduling, noting that no British players were featured on the centre court. "I do have questions as to why no British players were on centre court today," Evans remarked. "The British fans come here to watch British players."
