Ons Jabeur Prioritizes Wellbeing with Tennis Hiatus
Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur announces a break from tennis to focus on her mental and physical health, withdrawing from upcoming tournaments.

Ons Jabeur, the Tunisian tennis sensation, has decided to take a significant step back from professional tennis to prioritize her wellbeing. The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) confirmed on Thursday that Jabeur has withdrawn from the upcoming Montreal Open and will not participate in next month's US Open. This decision marks a pivotal moment in her career, as she is the only player in the top 99 rankings to skip these major tournaments.
In a heartfelt social media post, Jabeur shared her struggles over the past two years, stating, "I've been pushing myself so hard, fighting through injuries and facing many other challenges. But, deep down, I haven't felt happy on court for some time now." She emphasized the beauty of tennis but acknowledged the need to take a break to heal and rediscover her joy in life.
Jabeur, who has been ranked as high as number two in the world, has seen her ranking drop to 71st. Her recent performance at Wimbledon, where she retired from her first-round match due to extreme heat, further highlighted her physical and mental exhaustion. Following her exit, she expressed her sadness and the impact on her confidence, stating, "It really doesn't help with my confidence and what I keep pushing myself to do, even though it has been a very tough season for me."
In her statement, Jabeur revealed her plans to rest and disconnect from tennis, spending quality time with her family. This hiatus is a testament to her courage in prioritizing her health over her career, setting an example for athletes worldwide.
