Tim Wellens Secures Breakaway Victory in Tour de France Stage 15
Belgian champion Tim Wellens clinched his first Tour de France stage victory with a strategic breakaway on stage 15, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Tim Wellens of UAE Team Emirates-XRG achieved a remarkable victory in Stage 15 of the Tour de France, marking his first stage win in the prestigious race. The 169.3km route from Muret to Carcassonne provided the perfect stage for Wellens to showcase his tactical prowess and endurance.
The Breakaway
Wellens, who had been supporting race leader Tadej Pogacar in the initial weeks, seized his opportunity on the final climb of the day. Breaking away from a lead group of eight riders, Wellens maintained his lead with a strong solo effort, finishing 1 minute 28 seconds ahead of fellow Belgian Victor Campenaerts. French two-time world champion Julian Alaphilippe secured third place.
The Aftermath
Pogacar, who crossed the line six minutes later, retained his overall lead in the general classification. Wellens' victory added to UAE Team Emirates-XRG's impressive tally, making it their fifth stage win in this year's Tour.
Wellens' Reaction
"It is a very special victory," Wellens remarked. "Not many people win in the Tour de France, so it was very beautiful. I felt super good on the last climb and knew I had to go solo. I found my moment and kept riding until the finish line."
Looking Ahead
The race resumes with a challenging 171.5km ride from Montpellier, culminating in a grueling climb up Mont Ventoux. Pogacar acknowledged the difficulty of the second week but remains focused on maintaining his lead.
