Mason Mount, Manchester United's midfielder, has made it clear that qualifying for European football is the primary goal for the team in the upcoming season. The 2025-26 campaign marks only the second time since the 1980s that United will be absent from European competitions, following their 15th-place finish in the Premier League and a defeat in the Europa League final by Tottenham.

"Europe is a massive, massive thing for us," Mount stated. "The Champions League would be amazing for us, and as a group, we want to be playing in that competition. But I'd say Europe. I think that's the focus."

United's performance in the 24-25 season left much to be desired, finishing 23 points behind seventh-placed Nottingham Forest, who secured the last European qualifying spot. To bolster their squad, United have already invested over £125 million in acquiring forwards Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

Speculation continues to swirl around potential new signings, with Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson being the latest names linked to the club. However, United sources have denied any imminent deals, and Villa has privately stated that Watkins is not for sale.

In preparation for the new season, United have traveled to the United States for their three-match Premier League Summer Series, facing West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton. Meanwhile, players like Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are training at United's Carrington complex.

Real Betis remains interested in bringing Antony back after a successful loan spell last season, while Juventus is keen on Sancho but needs to make room in their squad before pursuing any deal.

Manchester United's ambition to return to European football is a testament to their determination to reclaim their place among Europe's elite. With new signings and a focused squad, the team is poised to make a strong comeback.
