Littler and Rock Set for Epic Semi-Final Clash in World Matchplay
Luke Littler and Josh Rock prepare for a thrilling semi-final in the World Matchplay after both secured dramatic quarter-final victories.

Littler Holds Nerve in Thrilling Quarter-Final
World champion Luke Littler showcased his resilience and skill to edge past Andrew Gilding in a nail-biting quarter-final at the World Matchplay. Littler, who sits at number two in the world rankings, seemed poised for a comfortable victory after building a substantial lead at 12-8 and later at 14-9. However, Gilding staged a remarkable comeback, winning three consecutive legs to narrow the gap to 15-14. The 18-year-old Littler remained composed under pressure, securing a 16-14 win and booking his place in the semi-finals.
Littler's performance was marked by an impressive average of 103.91, compared to Gilding's 98.45, and he hit 18 maximums throughout the match. Reflecting on the intense encounter, Littler told Sky Sports, "The crowd got their money's worth. I think they wanted 15-all, but in that last leg, I just had to stay focused. I didn't really panic. Leg by leg, Andrew started to win a few on the trot, but on the last leg, against the darts, I just had to get over the line."
Rock Delivers Fireworks Against Price
In the other quarter-final, Josh Rock lived up to Littler's prediction of "fireworks" as he triumphed over 2023 runner-up Gerwyn Price. Both players delivered exceptional performances, with Rock averaging 104.02 and Price 100.21. Rock seized the initiative by winning three consecutive legs to establish an 11-8 lead, which he extended to 13-9. Despite Price's efforts to rally, making it 13-11, Rock closed out the match in style, winning the final three legs and capping it off with a stunning checkout of 164.
"I'm on cloud nine at the minute. What a game," Rock exclaimed post-match. "I was just like, 'Josh, you're doing nothing wrong, you're playing your own game, happy days.' The form Gerwyn's in, you know what to expect. Littler's one of my closest friends behind the scenes. I hope we both turn up. Hopefully, it will be a cracking game."
Semi-Final Showdown
The semi-finals promise to be a spectacle, with England's James Wade set to face Jonny Clayton of Wales in the first match. The highlight of the evening will undoubtedly be the clash between Littler and Rock, two of the sport's brightest talents. Both players have demonstrated their ability to perform under pressure, setting the stage for an unforgettable encounter.
Darts fans around the world will be eagerly anticipating this semi-final, as Littler and Rock prepare to battle for a place in the World Matchplay final.
