Summer McIntosh Dominates 400m Freestyle at World Aquatics Championships
Summer McIntosh secures gold in the 400m freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships, outpacing Katie Ledecky and Li Bingjie.

In a thrilling display of speed and endurance, Canada's Summer McIntosh claimed the gold medal in the women's 400m freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. The event was highly anticipated as a showdown between McIntosh, an 18-year-old triple Olympic gold medalist, and the seasoned nine-time Olympic champion, Katie Ledecky from the USA.
McIntosh dominated the race from the start, finishing with an impressive time of 3 minutes 56 seconds. China's Li Bingjie took the silver medal, while Ledecky secured the bronze, trailing McIntosh by 2.23 seconds.
This victory marks a significant milestone for McIntosh, who is on track to join the legendary Michael Phelps as the only swimmers to win five individual titles at a single world championships. McIntosh is also scheduled to compete in the 400m and 200m individual medley, 200m butterfly, and 800m freestyle events.
Reflecting on her performance, McIntosh shared with Canadian broadcaster CBC, 'It's amazing, day one is probably my biggest day in the meet. That 400m freestyle, I was so in control that entire race and super strong. Overall I felt I had the endurance. I'm just trying to take it one race at a time and day by day.'
In other notable performances, Ben Proud of Great Britain set a new British record in the men's 50m butterfly semi-final with a time of 22.74 seconds, securing his place in the final. Meanwhile, Jordan Houlden finished fourth in the men's 1m springboard diving event, and Noah Penman made his senior world championships debut, placing 17th out of 59 divers in the preliminary round.
