Brentford Breaks Transfer Record with £42.5m Signing of Dango Ouattara

Brentford makes history with a record £42.5m deal for Bournemouth's Dango Ouattara, strengthening their squad for the upcoming Premier League season.

Brentford has officially announced the signing of Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth in a club-record deal worth up to £42.5 million. The 23-year-old Burkina Faso forward has committed to a five-year contract, with an option for an additional year, signaling Brentford's ambition in the Premier League.

Ouattara, who scored nine goals in 37 appearances across all competitions last season, is seen as a direct replacement for Bryan Mbeumo, who departed for Manchester United earlier this summer. Brentford's manager, Keith Andrews, expressed his enthusiasm about the new signing, highlighting Ouattara's Premier League experience and potential to enhance the team's attacking dynamics.

"We're thrilled to bring Dango into our squad," Andrews stated. "His ability and experience at such a young age are exactly what we need to bolster our forward line. We believe he will quickly become a fan favorite with his dynamic playing style."

Sources close to the player revealed that Ouattara was eager for a move after struggling to secure a consistent starting role at Bournemouth. Since joining from French club Lorient in January 2023, Ouattara has shown flashes of brilliance but lacked regular game time to fully establish himself.

Andrews also commented on the strategic fit of Ouattara within Brentford's playing style, emphasizing his potential to complement the existing squad. "He brings qualities that we were missing in our attack, and we're confident he will thrive here," Andrews added.

The signing comes amidst speculation about the future of Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, who has been linked with a move away from the club. Andrews confirmed that Wissa would not feature in Brentford's Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest, fueling rumors of an imminent transfer.

Nottingham Forest had previously shown interest in Ouattara but ultimately signed Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich for £37.5 million. Meanwhile, Newcastle United's £25 million bid for Wissa, with additional add-ons, was reportedly rejected by Brentford.

This high-profile acquisition underscores Brentford's commitment to competing at the highest level in the Premier League, as they aim to build on their recent successes and continue their upward trajectory in English football.
