Jodie Burrage made an emphatic start to her US Open 2025 qualifying campaign with a dominant performance against Patricia Maria Tig of Romania. The British tennis star, ranked 149th in the world, showcased her prowess on the courts of Flushing Meadows, New York, by winning 6-4, 6-0 in the first round of qualifiers.
Burrage’s victory was marked by an impressive streak of eight consecutive games, highlighting her determination to secure a spot in the main draw. This win sets her up for a challenging encounter against the 18th seed, Arantxa Rus, in the next round. Burrage, who previously reached the US Open main draw in 2023, is aiming to replicate her success and make a deeper run this year.
Joining Burrage in the second round is Billy Harris, who displayed resilience to overcome James Kent Trotter of Japan with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 comeback victory. However, Johannus Monday faced a tough loss against Harold Mayot of France, ending his campaign early.
The US Open 2025 qualifiers, held from August 24 to September 7, require players to win three matches to advance to the main singles draw. British hopes also rest on Dan Evans and Jay Clarke, who are set to begin their campaigns on Monday.
