Fernandez and Oda Triumph Over Hewett and Reid in US Open Wheelchair Doubles Final
Gustavo Fernandez and Tokito Oda clinched their first US Open wheelchair doubles title, defeating British duo Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid in a thrilling final.

In a gripping US Open wheelchair doubles final, Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez and Japan's Tokito Oda emerged victorious against British pair Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid. The match concluded with a score of 6-1, 2-6, (10-6), marking their first triumph at the US Open.
Hewett and Reid, who have previously secured five consecutive US Open doubles titles from 2017 to 2021, were aiming for their 24th Grand Slam trophy together. However, the new pairing of Fernandez and Oda proved to be a formidable challenge.
The opening set saw Fernandez and Oda dominate, winning five successive games. Despite a strong comeback from Hewett and Reid in the second set, the championship tie-break favored the new duo. A forehand error by Hewett into the net sealed the victory for Fernandez and Oda.
Fernandez praised his opponents, stating, "These two guys are by far the best doubles players our sport has ever seen. I've lost a million times against them." He also hinted at future collaborations, saying, "It's the first time we have played doubles together so maybe we should do it again in Australia?"
Both Fernandez and Oda will return to the court tomorrow for the men's wheelchair singles final, where they will face each other. Oda defeated Hewett, while Fernandez overcame Martin de la Puente in the semi-finals.
Wheelchair tennis has made a strong return to the US Open this year after being omitted in 2024 due to scheduling conflicts with the Paralympics. The event continues to showcase the incredible skill and determination of its athletes.
