Stephen Bunting Triumphs Over Nathan Aspinall to Claim International Open Title
Stephen Bunting secures his first European Tour title by defeating Nathan Aspinall 8-5 in the International Open final.

Stephen Bunting claimed his first European Tour title by defeating fellow Englishman Nathan Aspinall 8-5 in the final of the International Open in Germany. The victory marks a significant milestone for Bunting, who had recently ended a streak of eight match defeats in the Premier League with a win in Berlin.
Bunting, currently fifth on the PDC order of merit, showcased his impressive form with a confident display at the Sachsen Arena in Riesa. He averaged 100.19 compared to Aspinall's 91.36, demonstrating his superior consistency and skill.
The match began with Bunting taking an early 3-1 lead, but Aspinall fought back with two bullseye finishes, including a remarkable 130 checkout, to level the score. Despite Aspinall's efforts, Bunting regained control, winning the next three legs to establish a commanding lead.
Aspinall, who had recently won the European Darts Trophy in Gottingen, was unable to secure back-to-back European Tour victories. Bunting's relentless performance ensured he maintained the momentum, ultimately sealing the win.
In the semi-finals, Bunting had a thrilling 7-6 victory over Luke Humphries, marking his second win over the world number one in a week. Humphries had come from 4-1 down to draw level, but Bunting clinched the match with an 11-dart finish.
Notably, Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen did not participate in the tournament, leaving the stage clear for Bunting to shine.
