Rory McIlroy Optimistic About Brian Rolapp's PGA Tour Leadership
Rory McIlroy expresses optimism about Brian Rolapp's new role as PGA Tour CEO, highlighting his NFL experience and potential for positive impact.

Rory McIlroy has voiced his support for Brian Rolapp's appointment as the new CEO of the PGA Tour, describing it as a "really positive thing" for the sport. Rolapp, who brings over 20 years of experience from the National Football League (NFL), is set to take over the day-to-day operations from current commissioner Jay Monahan by 2026.
McIlroy, a four-time major champion, emphasized the significance of Rolapp's background in global sports expansion. "He's certainly said all the right things and he has an amazing background with two decades in the NFL," McIlroy noted. "For him to bring that experience, I think it will be amazing and it's great that Jay is there to help with the smooth transition."
Rolapp has already begun engaging with the PGA Tour's membership, including a meeting before the Travelers Championship in Connecticut. World number one Scottie Scheffler also expressed his approval, stating, "I liked what I got to hear." Scheffler added, "I think it's exciting to have some new leadership. Our board and Jay have put a lot of research into finding his successor and to get someone from high up in the NFL is pretty cool."
McIlroy, who is preparing for the Travelers Championship after a challenging week at the US Open, shared his thoughts on the transition. "The weeks after major championships, sometimes when you're in contention and trying to win them it can feel quite difficult to go and play the next week," he said. "But after a week like I had at Oakmont, where you aren't quite in the mix but you think you might have found something in your game, you are excited to play again."
McIlroy also highlighted his improved performance off the tee at Oakmont, which he believes is a positive sign for his game moving forward. "Last week I felt I found a feeling, especially off the tee that was repeatable and working well," he said. "I led strokes off the tee last week which was a big thing for me. I thought I drove the ball well all week."
As the PGA Tour prepares for this leadership transition, the golfing community is optimistic about the fresh perspectives and expertise Rolapp will bring to the table. With his extensive experience in the NFL and a proven track record in global sports expansion, Rolapp is poised to lead the PGA Tour into a new era of growth and innovation.
